Ciclope Africa festivalThere's just one week left to enter the Ciclope Africa craft festival - the first time that the international craft and production festival has a regional Africa leg, ahead of the main event in Berlin, Germany in November 2018. The Ciclope Africa awards and event will be held at the Zeitz MOCCA Museum of Contemporary Art in Cape Town, South Africa, on 10 April 2018 to showcase Africa's production talent. The entries selected by the Executive Jury as the best in their categories and the Grand Prix will automatically become finalists at CICLOPE Festival 2018 in Berlin. E-commerce in Africa is booming and according to DHL, cross-border retail volumes are predicted to increase at an annual average rate of 25% between 2015 and 2020 (from $300billion to $900billion) - twice the pace of domestic e-commerce growth. Africa's smartphone market was also in the news this week as sales are expected to increase from a decline last year due to economic challenges in Africa's biggest markets, according to International Data Corporation; and in Nigeria, Africa's largest marketplace, social media use and the availability of cheaper Asian-branded smartphones are driving demand, says Jumia.
