Suncoast tries for Guinness world record

From 16 October 2004 NuMetro CineCentre at Suncoast will include a midnight show in their programme. Coinciding with this latest addition to the NuMetro Cinecentre at Suncoast line-up, is a crack at the existing record for non-stop viewing in The Guinness Book of World Records.

Ten contestants will attempt to beat the current record set in Singapore two years ago of over 72 hours, by watching movies for 80 hours non-stop. An extensive schedule of movies across all genres has been planned and participants will have 5 minute breaks between each film and then a 15 minute break after every third film. Refreshments, shower facilities and medical assistance from Dr Dinesh Patel and aromatherapist Saroj Murugan, will be on call throughout the period to make the task as comfortable as possible. Surveillance cameras and auditors will oversee the security of the event in order to comply with the strict criteria laid down by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Contestants include local celebrities, members of the public and Manoj Lakhani, Chief Executive Officer of Moksha Media who originated the idea. "I've committed the time and effort to making this project happen, so it's a chance to do something for a worthy cause whilst at the same time having a lot of fun," Lakhani says.

Members of the public are welcome to watch the movies at R10 per movie, whilst at the same time providing moral support for the contestants. All monies raised will be donated to the Entabeni Children's Village for HIV & Aids Orphans.

Prizes for the winner includes R10 000 in cash sponsored by Suncoast, a years supply (52 double tickets) of movie tickets from NuMetro CineCentre at Suncoast and a host of sponsors hampers. They also get the prestigious entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. Broadcast sponsor East Coast Radio will be making regular crossings to the contestants during the course of the three day event.

If you are interested in being a contestant it's not too late. Get your entry form from the Suncoast Club Festival Desk or enter on the ECR website on www.ecr.co.za.
