ZA Space-Tech Innovation Challenge finalists announced

The ZA Space-Tech Innovation Challenge put a call out for applications to find Africa's top space-tech ideas in the downstream application of space-technology. The call sought African innovators who are using geospatial intelligence to service African industries including agriculture, insurance, retail and conservation.

From the broad pool of applicants, 16 finalists have been shortlisted to progress to the next stage of the open innovation challenge, which involves the finalists undergoing an intensive two-week business development support programme from 30 November to 11 December.

This will be then followed by a pitching den where the startups will pitch their idea in front of a panel of judges and industry representatives, hosted by the SA Innovation Summit, the largest tech start-up event in Africa. All finalists will be screened for investment funding by Anza Capital, a female-led fund focused on early-stage businesses.

  • UpFarm - Stephan Erasmus, South Africa  
  • South African Space Technology for Sustainable Development Foundation (NPO) - Thabani Mazibuko
  • HeHe- Clarisse Iribagiza, Rwanda 
  • GeoAlert - George Potapov, Russia
  • FloodWiz - Ineza Bonte, Rwanda
  • Fourth Line - Chiyanika Nakasamu, Zambia 
  • Risk Response - Stephan Erasmus, South Africa 
  • Contre IPC - Khotso Maloi, South Africa
  • ABCD Electricity - Graham Morrison, South Africa
