Corporate reporting is changing and it's going to have an impact on your organisation

The Good Governance Academy (GGA) will be hosting its 5th Colloquium focused on Enterprise Value Creation on Thursday 13 May 2021. The Colloquium aims to equip participants with an understanding of the need for sustainability reports and a single sustainability reporting standard; describe how and why sustainability reporting standards bodies are collaborating and merging; and interpret sustainability and enterprise value creation.

Says GGA founder and host of the 5th Colloquium Professor Mervyn King: “The error of corporate leaders in the 20th century was to focus on increasing the wealth of shareholders instead of focusing on increasing the long-term health of the company. This "primacy of the shareholder" was unsustainable and has been replaced by enterprise value creation, preservation and erosion.” On 13 May, King together with panel of global thought leaders will illustrate why, going forward, an organisation will be valued on its activities and how its outputs add to society. Joining King in this discussion are: Helen Brand, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Chief Executive; Jonathan Labrey, International Integrated Reporting Council Chief Strategy Officer; Kevin Dancey, International Federation of Accountants Chief Executive Officer; and Paul Druckman, World Benchmarking Alliance Chairman.

Explains Carolynn Chalmers, CEO of the GGA, the GGA (NPC) was “established in 2019 to collaborate globally with business schools, institutions and universities to share information on critical governance and business science issues as a public good, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 17 (partnership for the goals) and 4 (education). Our goal is to develop conscious leaders who pursue value creation and the development of healthy, purpose driven organisations within the context of inclusive capitalism and sustainable development in all three dimensions of economy, society and the environment.”

The NPC does this by, amongst other related activities, holding two colloquia a year so that the best thought leadership is imparted from, and to, educators and corporate leaders for the benefit of global future leaders.

The Academy’s supporting partners, of which the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) is one of them, invite their members to these colloquia and receive the post-event memoranda so that professionals in business and academia, as well as aspirant professionals, are informed of what is happening internationally on these critical governance issues.
