Applications open for free Life Choices Academy coding boot camp

Since 2017, Life Choices Academy has equipped youth with coding skills through a year-long free coding boot camp. Successful applicants to the coding course are trained in web development and programming over six months at the Life Choices headquarters in Lansdowne, Cape Town.

During this period, students cover theory from Monday to Friday (8.30am to 5.00pm). This is followed by students taking up paid internships in local businesses for a further six-month period. At the end of the boot camp, graduates are well versed in industry standard coding languages such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and Python as well as the necessary professionalism to enter the working world.

The next boot camp will begin at the end of March with applications closing on 28 February 2021. Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 18-25 years who live in Cape Town. Preference is given to young people from underserved communities.

Future-based skills

“We believe in providing future-based skills that can assist young people from underserved communities to access well-paid jobs in the tech industry. And in this way, they will be able to turn their lives around quickly,” says Sofia Neves, MD at Life Choices.

“Candidates do not need to have prior coding experience. However, they do need to have a passion for technology and the right mindset. Successful candidates are normally young people who are hungry to change their lives. They are curious to learn new things, they are self-motivated to work hard and they don’t take things for granted. Any young person who ticks these boxes has a place at our academy,” Neves concluded.
