Kieno Kammies joins Jacaranda

Kieno Kammies, the new host of Jacaranda 94.2's Good Morning show, has promised to run the most successful breakfast show in South Africa - and in South African radio circles dominated by some long-time heavyweight jocks, that's quite an ambitious aim.

Jacaranda 94.2 is South Africa's largest independent radio station with a significant broadcast footprint that covers Gauteng, the Mpumalanga Lowveld and the Limpopo province, with a substantial listenership. He will be going head to head particularly with the RAW team on competitor, Highveld.

Kieno has the external backing of an aggressive station marketing campaign. Jacaranda 94.2 re-branded and re-positioned itself as Life's Greatest Hits earlier this year so is has invested heavily in driving home the message.

Lloyd Madurai takes over as programming manager and Gary Oberholzer as Good Morning show producer. Together, the team is aiming to deliver a breakfast show which will be entertaining, informative and controversial.

Their vision for the morning show, according to the team, is that it should assist listeners to start the day on a good footing - that even if they may have problems of traffic, work or just feeling low, their day can still get better. "We would like to bring them to a point where they feel good about life, despite the hiccups of modern life."

Kieno's radio background encompasses on-air stints at Good Hope FM, P4, MWeb Radio, Cape Talk and 702.

Comments station head Mike Siluma: "We would like the 'Good Morning show with Kieno Kammies' to be engaging without being too serious; it has to be informative and above all entertaining. We believe we can achieve this by introducing Kieno into our highly regarded mix of music (which is familiar, varied and non-intrusive), as well as our up-to-date newscasts and weather reports.

"Kieno is already a big name in radio and is familiar with many listeners in Gauteng. He will be talking about things that matter to listeners - things that are of interest to them."
