The man behind the new, lovingly restored Long Street Boutique Hotel, Raymond Hasselerharm, envisioned a venue for "Cosmopolites" - the citizens of the world who want to emerge themselves in the culture and vibe of the city they are visiting. The Lloyd Hotel in his home country, Holland, was his inspiration and motivation to create a hotel where you can stay, play and people-watch. He found the perfect location in Cape Town's famous Long Street.
Hasselerharm wanted a space that is accessible to the greater public, without compromising on comfort and quality, and always respectful of the history of the building. Furthermore, this timeless establishment influenced in design by his many travels and love of architecture, had to succeed commercially.
Gerd Weideman Architects is responsible for this brief, which includes the upgrade and expansion of The Long Street Boutique Hotel. The aim was to create a modern space within a colonial building, situated in the pulse of the city and reminiscent of Times Square in New York.
The result? A wonderfully cool oasis within the bustling city. High ceilings, spacious rooms, original wooden floors, high vaulted ceilings, big bay windows and the original wrap-around patio, all set the scene.
The four-star hotel boasts clean lines, open and uncluttered spaces and a feeling of simple modernity that does not compromise on luxury. The hotel comprises six suites designed by Joke Glauser in chic, turn-of-the-century café style.
Currently in the process of upgrading, an additional seven rooms - six with luxurious balconies overlooking the famous Long Street strip - will elevate the property to a four-star status look, feel, and quality without the high price tag. Guests can enjoy modern amenities and have easy access to the vibe and variety of Cape Town's beloved Long Street.
