Ruiter started his career in journalism as a student journalist at Die Burger in Cape Town, from where his career took him down different journalism paths. He worked at various Media24 publications including the TygerBurger, Die Burger Oos-Kaap, Sondag and the magazine Kuier. Before accepting the position in Oudtshoorn, he was a sports reporter and sports newsreader at OFM in Bloemfontein.

"The new job is a huge challenge for me, but I look forward to tackling it with dedication and passion. The Absa KKNK is an integral part of the Afrikaans speaking community and I hope to make a positive contribution here so that the festival can keep developing as a creative torchbearer for this proverbially sweetest of languages," says Ruiter.

The Absa KKNK will be presented in Oudtshoorn from 31 March to 7 April 2012.
