    2017 Fringe Fresh Award winners announced

    The 2017 Fringe Fresh Awards were presented in front of an audience of theatre professionals, media, and fans at the Fringe Club in Gardens, Cape Town on 7 October 2017. The awards acknowledge the creative excellence showcased during the Cape Town Fringe Festival.

    Fringe Fresh Awards convenor Motlatji Ditodi says, “The variety of work on the programme this year has been challenging and incredibly fresh. I am very happy to have witnessed the work that the Fringe had to offer.”

    2017 Fringe Fresh Award winners announced

    The Fringe Fresh Awards were chosen by a panel of industry experts. This year’s panel comprised of Motlatji Ditodi, Celeste Botha, Kurt Egelhof, Paul Griffiths, Faye Kabali-Kagwa, Atiyyah Khan, Steven Kretzmann, Ukhona Mlandu, Mbongeni Nomkonwana, Gabriella Pinto, and Tracey Saunders.

    The Fringe Fresh Awards winners are as follows: 

    Fresh creative - choreography
    Mzokuthula Gasa for Abangabonwa (The Unseen)

    Fresh creative - directing
    Mahlatsi Mokgonyana for Tswalo

    Fresh creative - writing
    Khayalethu Anthony for The Champion

    Gug' Othandayo the Musical
