Int speakers address colloquium on urban green spaces, greening

A colloquium on 'The Value of Urban Green Spaces and Greening' will be held at the UNISA Florida Campus in Roodepoort on Thursday 1 November 2012 from 8am, ending with a tour of the new horticulture centre at the campus at 2pm.

International speakers include Dr Gregory Moore (Australia) on the 'Real value of Urban Trees and Landscapes' and 'Use of Trees in Urban Stormwater Management' and Dr Christy Boylan (Ireland) on 'Diverse Values and Uses of Parks: A Global View' and 'Management issues in Parks'.

Local speakers include Prof Maggi Linington, executive dean, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and Prof Hennie Stoffberg (Unisa) on 'Estimates of carbon storage by Jacaranda street trees in the City of Tshwane, South Africa'.

The programme director is Prof Willie Nel, chair of Department Environmental Sciences and Prof Richard Hendrick, director of School of Environmental Sciences, will close the programme.
