Twelve fights confirmed for EFC Africa 11

EFC Africa 11, which takes place at the Coca-Cola Dome, Joburg, on 10 November, 2011, has 12 bouts scheduled as well as one or two surprises in store to showcase Africa's top talent. Details of the final mystery fights will be available on efcafrica.com in the next few days.

The evening's main event fights have Andrew van Zyl challenging defending champion Ruan Potts for the heavyweight title, while Alex Cheboub takes on defending champion Costa Ioannou for the lightweight title. Then Nolan Swanepoel and Martin van Staden collide in SA's welterweight rankings and middleweight strikers Jacques Joubert and Tyron Rightford trade leather.

Twelve fights confirmed for EFC Africa 11

Of the 12 bouts already confirmed, EFC Africa 11 features a number of new fighters from around South Africa:

From Durban

• Donavin "Bam Bamz" Hawkey. Hawkey joins EFC Africa's middleweight division, but is a four-time SA light heavyweight MMA champ with international experience.
• James Rennie. Rennie recently took up full-time MMA and now prepares to make a name for himself. Renowned for his fortitude, Rennie brings an 11-2 record to the welterweight division.
• Dain Neveling. "The Sandman" has a track record of putting people to sleep, and he brings very heavy hands to the heavyweight division.

From Cape Town

• Don Madge. Two-time SA Muay Thai champion, ranked second by the World Pro Muay Thai Federation and voted best foreign fighter in Phuket, Thailand in 2010. He now makes his pro MMA debut as part of Cape Town's exciting new fight team African Top Team.

From Pretoria

• Tumelo Maphutha. The former SA heavyweight Thai boxing champion, 2005 King of the Ring Africa K1 champion and Kyokushin second dan black belt has a devastating array of strikes. He recently moved to light heavyweight so expect a faster, more explosive fighter than ever before.
• Ian Visser. This dangerous heavyweight brings an impressive combat record to the cage, sporting Springbok colours in amateur wrestling and multiple titles in SA and All Africa K1 kickboxing.

From Johannesburg

• Denzil Wait. Wait brings a very well-rounded skill set to EFC Africa's featherweight division. The self-employed businessman's long history in MMA makes him an exciting prospect.
