World Hunger Day aims to inspire people around the world to consider the poor and to take action against hunger and poverty in their own countries.

The organisation distributes 300 tons of food per month to more than 1000 non-profit and community based organisations, including crèches and schools in impoverished areas as well as residential care facilities in South Africa.

Donations

Its patron, Bryan Habana, is appealing to people to participate by SMS the word 'FoodBank' to 40421 to make a R20 donation, which will enable it to provide food to feed 12 hungry people.

Established in 2009 through the merger of a number of hunger relief organisations, half of its beneficiaries are children. Its Food Rescue Programme rescues thousands of tons of fresh, healthy, nutritious food each year, which would otherwise end up on rubbish dumps.
