"The Social Justice M-Plan, or Mosa-Plan, is a social justice accelerator programme that aims to catalyse the process of ending poverty and equalising life opportunities by 2030 as envisaged in the National Development Plan (NDP) read with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," says Madonsela.

The discussions aim to outline the core challenges facing the economy and what needs to be done to achieve a socially just and sustainable economy. The "outcome of the dialogue is to utilise an inclusive social justice and sustainability lens to work towards “a concept paper that will provide a framework for social justice policy analysis in South Africa," Madonsela noted.

Madonsela stressed that "the best role that academia can play is to explore pathways that will create room to partner with government towards an inclusive, sustainable and just economy."

Under the programme direction of Karyn Maughan, the dialogue will address questions like how President Cyril Ramaphosa’s administrative decisions and policies aim to deal with rampant poverty and inequality, with a view to plotting pathways towards an inclusive, socially just and sustainable economy.
