SOCAP events to mark World Consumer Rights Day

In order to mark World Consumer Rights Day, the Society of Consumer Affair Professionals (SOCAP) a division of the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA), will be hosting the events in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban on 13 March 2015.

Three great industry experts are lined-up to speak about their expert knowledge and offer consumers information that will benefit them. It is going all out to offer businesses new insights and information that will help them deliver a better and more transparent service to consumers in South Africa.

World Consumer Rights Day is marked each year on 15 March; to promote the basic rights of all consumers and to make sure those rights are respected and protected.

"SOCAP hosts networking events with our members and non-members with the aim of building a level of skill and professionalism amongst consumer care professionals in South Africa", says Laura Nel, Chairperson, SOCAP South Africa and Head: Communication & Public Affairs, Johnson & Johnson South Africa. "The organisation is the vehicle through which cutting edge skills and solutions for consumer care functions can be built at a company level, hopefully ensuring complaint resolution early in the process and therefore minimising complaints being elevated to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman (CGSO)."

In Cape Town, Karen Carstensen from Woolworths will share a case study on how they promote transparency with consumers. It takes place at the Woolworths head office.

In Durban, Marie Brand from the WiGroup will be speaking and sharing how their mobile voucher system assists with turning transparency into success stories. It takes place at the Unilever South Africa head office.

In Johannesburg, Consumer specialist Jane Badham will provide insight around transparency when it comes to food safety in the consumer goods industry. It takes place at the CGCSA head office.

"These events are part of an on-going effort by CGCSA and SOCAP to allow our members to have access to a wealth of knowledge gathered by numerous experts over a number of years. This will help to improve customer service, which is a top priority. World Consumer Rights Day gives the retail industry a chance to reflect on the milestones, well as the challenges," says Patricia Pillay Head, Consumer Goods Industry Affairs.
