Another bidder, DotConnectAfrica Trust, has applied for the .dotafrica TLD, which, if it is successful, means it could allocate names such as "example.dotafrica."

Earlier this year, the African Union Commission (AUC) selected UniForum SA as the preferred applicant for .africa due to its commitment to transparency and its record of accomplishment in reliability, technical ability, financial stability and continental representation.

As early as the first quarter of 2013, ICANN will announce whether UniForum SA has been successful in its bid for the continent's own TLD.
