Technology university to launch mobile computer

Authorities of Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) have hinted that the technology school is working together with the Learning Nugget, a UK technology company to launch a 10 tablet (mobile computer) to transform teaching and learning in Ghana and West Africa.

The tablet known as 'GTUC Campus Companion' (GCC) will be priced ranging from $300-$400, and is expected to go on sale in Ghana and other West African countries in 2013.

The president of the GTUC, Dr Osei Darkwa told CAJ News, that the yet-to-be launched device is composed of a virtual learning management system, a cloud-based multimedia content management application, and solutions from Safari Books online and Google applications to provide a comprehensive portfolio of learning sources.

He said apart from the basic features, the GCC would enable lecturers to deliver online courses and provide pre-learning, in-learning and post-learning content from preparation through to learning reinforcement.

Osei, who described the advice as being more advanced than the iPad said that the "Campus Companion will also be integrated with aspects of the GTUC administration system".

"The device will be available to educational institutions and organisational learning academies in Ghana and the sub-region.

"As a technology-oriented institution, we are mindful of how we employ information technology to promote teaching and learning," said Darkwa.
