The Impumelelo B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice Conference - Siyavaya!

The B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice is said to be the most important piece of legislation to influence South African business in the last century.

And the pressing need for information, analysis and comment on the newly released Codes from the Department of Trade and Industry (dti) inspired Top Companies Publishing to host a follow-up conference to the highly successful Hofmeyr Impumelelo BEE Conference of 2004.

The two-phase Impumelelo B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice Conference, held in partnership with the dti set to be held in May and in September this year, will guide industry and business understanding on how the current BEE Charters and legislation will be harmonised under the Codes. Further, the conference will provide better insight and clarification on the Codes themselves, which effectively standardise the definitions, recognition criteria and measurement principles of BEE cross enterprises and sectors.

During Phase One of the conference on 17 and 18 May chaired by Vuyo Mbuli of Morning Live, keynote speakers from the dti will cover the areas of Process Charter Formulation, Ownership, Management and the Role of a Rating Agency. From this delegates will be issued with a Certificate of Competency, effectively qualifying those in attendance with a deeper understanding of B-BBEE and the Codes, and practical BEE tools to assist them in all future business.

The Department of Trade and Industry (dti) is proud to be in partnership with Top Companies Publishing and Events in hosting the Impumelelo B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice Conference. Said the dti in their support letter of the event, "This conference, which is indeed timely and relevant for the market, will contribute in enhancing understanding on the Codes of Good Practice and show how charters and legislation is harmonized as well as provide further clarification on B-B-BBEE. Different components of the Codes of Good Practice will be explained including definitions, recognition criteria and measurement principles across enterprises and sectors to ensure the comparability of B-BBEE measurement.

Phase One of the conference will bring together, among others, delegates from Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Holdings, the South African Revenue Service (SARS), Rand Water, BHP Billiton, Investec, Bidvest Network Solutions, African Rainbow Minerals, the African Bank, Nortel, Johnson and Johnson etc. Managing Director of Top Companies Publishing Ralf Fletcher: "This conference is about the collaboration of like-minded and influential business people coming together, sharing information on new legislation, sharing expertise and sharing ideas from their respective industries and sectors."

Phase Two will be held on 7 and 8 September and covers the following topics:
