Randburg principals awarded over R250,000 worth of bursaries at Damelin roadshow breakfast

Over 30 schools vied for their share in R250,000 worth of bursaries at the launch of Damelin's 2015 Principals' Breakfast, held on Tuesday, 10 February 2015, at the Benvenuto Conference Centre in Randburg.

Spearheaded by the Damelin Randburg campus, in association with Seartec, distributor of the well-known Sharp brand, the breakfast attracted school principals from in and around Johannesburg, who showcased Damelin not as an alternate, but as a viable option with which to study further.

In the power-packed programme that featured actor Jack Devnarain of Isidingo as programme director, the principals motivated why their school was the most deserving of this life-changing opportunity.

After several inspiring stories, the principals of Thuto-Leefa School and Leap Science and Maths School won a massive R40,000 bursary each, courtesy of Damelin and Seartec. General Manager of Damelin Randburg, David Naidoo, and CEO of Seartec, Mark McChlery, also formed part of the presentation panel.

Recognising the need and demand for higher education among the schools, Damelin granted a further R10,000 bursary to each principal present to be given to a pupil of their choice. In addition, a brand-new Sharp microwave was awarded to Fidelators School in the Diepkloof Township.

Themed 'Degrees of Distinction in the Digital Sphere', Damelin and Seartec presented a unique and high-tech educational experience demonstrating the digital classroom of the future.

Group Head of Communications for Educor, the holding company for Damelin, Jessie Naidoo, said that the event was aimed at educating the principals on Damelin and its higher education programmes, which is on par with that of universities. "Our objective is to reposition the mindset of principals, educators, parents and students that Damelin is a well-established brand, with over 70 years in education. Studying with us, like any university, is an investment in your future," said Jessie.

According to Jack Devnarain, who endorsed the brand, Damelin should not be plan B, but an equal contender.

Damelin will be rolling out their remaining breakfasts nationally, showcasing the other 16 campuses from the end of February until August this year. Principals are welcome to contact their nearest Damelin branch and enquire about the next breakfast.
