Since Malawi severed its 40-year-old diplomatic ties with Taiwan and switched to the mainland, China in December last year, it is has already received seven medical practitioners who are working in its health facilities as part of its technical team.
Deputy director general in China's Ministry of Health, Lijii Wang, who signed the agreement on behalf of his country said they did not only come to put pen to paper toward the agreement but that he led a five member delegation that will explore means of boosting relations through medical assistance.
“We want to send more doctors to work here in Malawi and depending on our further discussions, the government of the People's Republic of China is ready to send 16 more doctors,” he said.
Wang said the health workers will help strengthen the relations and would love it if Malawi would also send doctors to China so that they can learn from their friends.
