Adventure specialist hosting inaugural Zambezi Whitewater Rafting Festival

Safari Par Excellence (SAFPAR), based in Livingstone, Zambia, will host the inaugural Zambezi Whitewater Rafting Festival from 9 to 11 November 2017 which will see rafting teams of six compete in class five rapids to claim the title of Zambezi Champion.

The Zambezi River is home to one of the world's best one-day whitewater rafting sections. Although the Zambezi River is one of the toughest rafting courses in the world, no experience is necessary and there will be a training day where techniques will be discussed.

The competition is made up of three main events:

Zambezi Test of the Best - A timed race between two teams from the Boiling Pot below Victoria Falls to the eddy below rapid number four “Morning Glory”.

Zambezi Le’ Mans Sprint - This is a mass start from the pool below rapid number five to the pool above rapid number seven. One team member is required to touch the attainment point on the river bank at the finish.

Zambezi Slalom - This is the final main event where one team at a time will go down the course with attainment areas. The start is at the pool at rapid number 12 and the finish is at rapid number 13 eddy.

All races are timed and one point is equal to one second. The overall winner of the festival is the team with the lowest points.

Each team of six must have a grade five accredited rafting guide that will be part of your team. The team’s guide of choice will be allocated at an auction event on Thursday 9 November, with the proceeds of the auction going to beneficiaries that have been selected by the festival organisers. One of the primary beneficiaries is International Rivers, who are a global body committed to the protection of rivers and the communities that depend on them.
