SA volumes of transported goods drops 8.6%

The volume of goods transported (or payload) in SA decreased by 8.6% in November compared the same month in 2012‚ Statistics South Africa said on Monday, 20 January.

The corresponding income for the month increased by 2.0%.

Income from freight transportation increased by 6.1% in the three months ended November last compared with the tsame peirod in 2012‚ with the main contributors to this increase being "other" freight (26.2% and contributing 2.5 percentage points); and primary mining and quarrying products (5.4% and contributing 1.8 percentage points)‚ Stats SA said.

The number of passenger journeys increased by 1.1% in November last year while the corresponding income increased by 8.8%.
