SA's SJ Myeza presented with Young Guns 15 Creative Choice Award!

In addition to celebrating the full class of 32 winners at the ceremony that was held on Thursday, 16 November 2017, in New York, The One Club for Creativity revealed two additional special awards recognising the best of the best of young creatives age 30 and under.

South African filmmaker SJ Myeza of 7Films was presented with the first-ever Young Guns Creative Choice Award. The accolade is the result of a public vote by the global creative community at large who reviewed work of all YG15 winners and picked the one they believe stands above all others.

In addition, illustrator Armando Veve, a Young Guns 15 winner based in Philadelphia, PA, USA, was named winner of the fourth annual Artist in Residence Award from international artists management agency and Young Guns sponsor Levine/Leavitt. The honour is bestowed annually to a newly crowned Young Gun whose body of work truly stands out, as judged by an advisory board of industry professionals across a range of disciplines. As this year’s winner, Veve receives a full year of professional development, guidance and mentorship to help advance his careers.

Young Guns, originally a program of the Art Directors Club (ADC) and now part of The One Club for Creativity after last year’s merger of the two non-profit organisations, is the industry’s only international, cross-disciplinary, portfolio-based awards competition that identifies and celebrates today’s vanguard of young creative professionals age 30 or younger.

    Record number of entries

A record number of entries were received this year from 44 countries, and were judged by 50 top creatives from around the world, about half of whom are past Young Guns. The full jury list can be viewed here.

Information about each Young Guns 15 winner, with examples of their work and links to personal websites, can also be viewed here.

This year’s winners were recognised at the Young Guns 15 awards ceremony at Highline Stages in New York’s Meatpacking District. The evening was hosted by legendary designer James Victore, a Young Guns winner from the program’s inaugural class of 1996.

    Unique Young Guns Cube

Young Guns 15 winners received a unique translucent version of the iconic Young Guns Cube, which gets reinvented each year in design and materials by a past Young Gun winner. This year’s Young Guns 15 cube and program branding were created by RoAndCo, an award-winning creative studio founded by Roanne Adams (YG9).

This year’s incoming Young Guns class also have their permanent profile page added to the Young Guns website, receive a complimentary one-year membership to The One Club for Creativity, permanent membership in Young Guns network, a chance to be featured in Young Guns events and an assortment of career-boosting opportunities from Young Guns sponsors.
