Blue Moon awarded Women of the Year Award contract

In line with the objectives and aspirations of the 2004 Shoprite Checkers/SABC 2 Women of the Year Award, the all-woman production team from Blue Moon has been awarded the prestigious contract for creative development and production of this year's broadcasting components and Award ceremony.

As the first major initiative for National Women's Day, the Shoprite Checkers/SABC 2 Women of the Year Award honours South African women who not only achieve success in their own respective fields, but who also make a difference in communities and inspire others to follow.

The Award's all-woman creative and production team is headed up by Blue Moon executive producer and event production specialist, Heidi Uys, along with creative directors Lucinda Hooley (better known to TV viewers as Isidingo's Mariaan van Onselen) and Chigo Gondwe (2002 Miss SA Teen host and celebrated spoken-word poet). The team has already produced an eye-catching and thought-provoking promotional insert to inspire nominations for the Award, which flighted extensively on SABC 1, 2 and 3 throughout February 2004.

"Not many companies in the production field can boast a figure of 73% women in their employ, across all departments," comments Blue Moon managing director, Michelle Caldeira. "Our team is well-placed to positively showcase the multi-faceted talents of women that make us proudly South African and the 2004 Award is a prominent reminder of the distance that the women of South Africa have travelled over the 10 years of our democracy in order to reach their goals."

After an extensive nationwide search campaign, for which nominations close on Friday, 21 May 2004, the Award culminates in a spectacular gala ceremony on Thursday, 29 July 2004 in the Mother City to announce the winners. This dazzling event will be broadcast by SABC 2 on Monday, 9 August 2004 – National Women's Day.
